What kind of urban home design do you want? Personally, I would like something that can make me feel calm and peaceful as if I’m not living in such a hectic city. This apartment in Soho (or “South Houston”) in Manhattan, New York, is the perfect example of a relaxing urban home design. It is designed by Magdalena Keck Interior Design.
The rooms of this apartment are airy and spacious, which I think will be a welcome sensation when you return home after a busy day in the crowded city. The walls are usually white or cream, and many of the furniture are also white. White is often contrasted with dark wood, and together they create a look of understated elegance and luxury. The abundant use of natural materials, such as wood and cotton, brings the peace and calmness of wild nature to this modern city dwelling.
The dining room is dominated by a large wooden dining table that has ten chairs around it. Above the table hangs a simple chandelier. Beside the dining table is the kitchen, and on the wall behind the dining table is a huge white bookshelf that houses a neat arrangement of books. The sitting room looks bare in an attractive way. Cream-colored curtains hang all the way to the floor, revealing the big windows that admit plenty of sunlight into the room.By the window, there is a black L-shaped sofa with a round coffee table standing in front of it. A little further from the windows there is a classic leather chaise, which adds elegance to the room. The floor of the sitting area is covered with a gray carpet with zig-zag line pattern on it. A picture of sunset hangs on the wall.
But the most peaceful room in this apartment is probably the bedrooms. The first bedroom has a very simple wooden double bed with roughspun coverings that makes the room look casual and natural. Two monochrome carpets with line patterns on it lie on the wooden floor, and beside the bed stands a big Japanese lantern functioning as night lamp. There’s a picture of wild flowers on the wall above the bed. The second bedroom looks more elegant with dark wood wall paneling and a grand white bed. The night lamps have shiny brass columns, which complement the luxurious look. In spite of its grandeur, this particular bedroom still manages to feel calm and peaceful because it is simply furnished and it has huge windows that open to the great view outside.
Last but not least is the terrace. From here you can have the majestic view of Manhattan skyline. With many comfortable sofas in it, you can easily relax here, looking over the great city without getting trapped in its chaos. Outdoor parties can also be held here. Imagine what a great fun you’ll have in this mesmerizing apartment!
